Don’t join this gym. The leadership team claims they want to help people, but really, they don’t. I am a disabled veteran. I suffer from persistent moderate depression due to trauma during my military service. The depression led to being significantly out of shape. I came to this gym looking for help. I didn’t hide my depression, I was up front and honest about it. They promised me help. A few months later they told me I had to leave their gym because a few members didn’t like me. No warning. No, “Hey, can you try not to do x or y?” Nothing. Just the door. Meanwhile they keep starting these free 6 week challenges to help other people for free. I paid for their help and didn’t get any. I would occasionally show up at the gym in tears because of my illness. I have suffered from depression long enough that I know that withdrawing into yourself is the wrong answer, being around people and not hiding is the right one. Because people can help. So I went to the gym anyway, made myself vulnerable, and did my best. Rather than say, “Hey, can we help?” they said it disturbs people and I should leave. If you are proud to be part of an organization like that, then join this gym. But if that kind of treatment bothers you, then vote with your presence. Leave if you are a member and don’t join if you aren’t. They are hypocrites and most certainly do not espouse the Crossfit ethos.
